Build your Decision Tree or Process Map Question by Question
When you open a new Mapit script you are shown an open palette upon which you can build your decision tree or process map.
Create a Page
You start by creating new Pages (represented as a rectangle on the palette) within which you can write your Questions. Questions can also have Notes that can be used as help files or to illustrate the Questions.
Provide prompts to help users Answer the Questions or provide a Textbox option to capture their answer.
Once this first Page is complete, create more Pages (literally new web pages) on the Palette. Here is where the power of Mapit Designer kicks in.
Link the Pages
Each page can be Linked to one or more of the Answers. These Links are created by a drag and drop process between the Pages. When the Link is created you are prompted for Conditions. "If Answer A is clicked, go to Page 2" "If Answer B or C is clicked, go to Page 3"
When the script is used on your website a user will click Answer A, then click the Next button and will be sent straight to Page 2.
There is no limit to how many pages or links you can create with the software although decision tree experts suggest that it is more productive to create several decision trees and link them (using the Mapit Hyperlink function) together.

Put your Decision Tree or Process Map on the Web
The Mapit Designer also has a Preview facility for you to test your scripts. Once you are happy with the output you can save the script as an html file ready to load onto your website.
Mapit Designer conveniently stores any images you have loaded into a file along with Cascading Stylesheet (CSS) and Javascript information.
Capture the User Information for Further Use
Using Mapit Designer as a survey tool is a great application. But even if you are writing scripts that lead your customers to the correct product or through a maze of legislation it can be very useful to watch the paths those customers take to get to that product or answer. There might even be a chance to capture some useful data about the customers needs or wishes.
Each completed Mapit script summarises the interaction the user has had with the script - Questions and Answers and any textual information entered. You can use an export facility to take that interaction information and send it to another application for further analysis or response.
